Essential Job Duties:
The primary purpose of this position is to assist The Wilson College of Textiles and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in identifying, recruiting and enrolling well qualified rural and/or first-generation students each academic year.
The Recruitment Coordinator will provide customer service, support, and recruitment to prospective students, school counselors, and families. This new position will reside in the Enrollment Management and Services Division (EMAS) and be joint position with The Wilson College of Textiles and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with prospective students, applicants, parents, and counselors, in order to identify, recruit, and enroll a new student class each year.
Independently interpret policy and procedure within delegated authority when responding to student/parent/counselor requests and inquiries.
Recognize how individual admission decisions impact overall enrollment goals.
Proactively and independently troubleshoots problems and complex issues.
Knowledge of and ability to use effective approaches for selecting applicants who will be selected for admission. Takes action consistent with available facts, constraints, and anticipated consequences when making admissions decisions.
Ability to analyze and synthesize relevant policies and legislation, and apply them to recruitment efforts.
Coordinate Pioneers and CALS Scholarship Programs.
Manage Summer Textile Exploration Program (STEP), Pioneers Week, and CALS Nominate a Student programs.
Initiate creative programming to engage student participation. Create and facilitate learning opportunities for students, parents, and counselors.
Review personal goals and accomplishments to ensure that assigned tasks have met desired outcomes.
Assist with the planning of recruitment events to ensure that the Admissions office reaches the targeted group of prospective students.
Network with colleagues in The Wilson College of Textiles and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences articulating admissions policies to them and collaborating with them for effective recruitment and yield activities.
Manage the correspondence with targeted prospective and admitted students as well as to key stakeholders including various high schools in rural areas of North Carolina.
Process applications, transcripts, and fees and correspond regarding the status of each of these with targeted applicants, school counselors, and parents.
Correspond with applicants regarding admission decisions and next steps.
Proactive outreach and recruitment to students interested in The Wilson College of Textiles and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Respond to applicants' questions and concerns in person and on the telephone accurately, thoroughly, and sensitively in a timely matter.
Use excellent communication skills to recruit and advise students, families, and school counselors regarding NC State, the admissions process, application materials, and next steps.
Provide positive and professional public presentations.
Represent NC State University to prospective students, parents, and school counselors by participating in high school visits, college fairs, receptions, open house events, etc. There is extensive contact with the public by phone, email, and in person through travel.
The position recruits and counsels prospective students, providing information about the University, The Wilson College of Textiles, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, admission standards, Pioneer and CALS Scholars, policies, and procedures.
Recruitment efforts involve extensive travel, primarily in North Carolina, and considerable public speaking.
Weekend work will be required occasionally.
Assist with office operations and duties including but not limited to answering phone calls, greeting campus visitors, responding to email inquiries, application review, application processing, transfer credit processing, and other projects as needed.
Conduct information sessions on and off campus for prospective students and their parents regarding NC State, The Wilson College of Textiles and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Review academic credentials of first year applicants to make appropriate admissions decisions, based on a holistic review of the application and supporting documents, including specific program requirements and student characteristics which would indicate success in these areas of study.
Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Ability to travel up to 25-30% of the time to high schools, community colleges and other Pioneers and CALS Scholars Program recruitment and/or yield events.
Ability to exercise judgment and work independently.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively as a team member.
Strong organization and time management skills to ensure scheduled deadlines.
Computer proficiency – must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized management information systems (databases).
Demonstrated ability to make accurate and consistent interpretations of a broad variety of academic and/or administrative policies and procedures
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, particularly in matters relative to sensitive or confidential student records, personnel, or organizational matters
Work requires in-depth analysis and counseling skills along with independent judgment and discretion to render appropriate admissions decisions in an increasingly competitive market.
Flexibility to travel for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 60 pounds
Experience in a University work setting is a plus.
Master's degree from an accredited institution, preferably in counseling, higher education or student services.
Significant time spent living in or working with students from a rural community.
Experience in event planning is a plus.
Experience with a variety of technology.
Required license or certification:
A valid North Carolina driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of start date.
